Sisonke Compost was born out of the urgent need to divert the 40% waste fraction that is organic waste and to promote the solidarity economy to decentralize compost making. This to support more local economy, food gardens, microenterprise development and build resilience in the face of climate change. Sisonke Compost promotes the use of Bokashi for treating food waste, collects treated food waste from commercial kitchens and canteens in eThekwini, and makes a 'living' compost product for positive soil regeneration.
